Dear Friends,
Harris County is changing, and so must Harris County Government. That's why we passed a redistricting plan to advance a more fair and equitable Harris County and allow the people's voices and views to be reflected by those who represent them.
After a transparent process of public engagement, I made my decision by taking into account public input and the redistricting criteria adopted by the county and complying with my solemn duties under the Constitution.
I am proud of what my colleagues and I accomplished. The map we passed today stands in stark contrast to the radical gerrymandering passed in Austin, which was designed solely to preserve the power of the Governor and Republican legislators at the expense of fair representation for all Texans.
To all the residents of Harris County, I will continue to be a powerful voice for you in county government, and will work hard for you every day as we work on initiatives that benefit everyone in Harris County.
When all Harris County residents have a voice in their government, we can do a better job of keeping Harris County safe, healthy, and prosperous for years to come.
