Dear Friends,

As we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, Precinct One wants to make sure that we are keeping you informed and involved with our work. Although we cannot gather physically for our regular town halls or meetings, we are working on keeping you connected with Precinct One.

That is why this year, Precinct One will be hosting a virtual State of the Precinct. Our residents will be able to tune in on Thursday, February 18 at 6PM to learn more about what we do, how we do it and, most importantly, how Precinct One is working to serve you, the residents of Harris County.

Residents will have the opportunity to hear from several members of our Precinct One team about things like planning and infrastructure projects in your area, how you can stay connected, and important information about resources and recovery efforts for COVID-19.

In order to ensure that we are responding to your needs, we want to know what you want to know. We have created a survey where you can submit questions and tell us what you want to hear more about. We will do our best to answer all of the questions either during the State of the Precinct or on our social media after the event.

We know that building a more equitable, just, and brighter future for Harris County will take all of us working together. So be sure to mark your calendars for February 18th, submit your questions, and stay connected with us.

New Precinct One Website

The Precinct One website recently received a complete overhaul. Launched two weeks ago, the website now provides in-depth information about Precinct One's  priorities and initiatives, and as always, gives detailed information about our parks and community centers.

On the homepage, you'll find the "What's Happening in Precinct One" section that highlights timely information and the latest precinct news. Additionally, the Connect with Us page gives visitors access to the precinct newsletters, e-newsletters, podcasts and press releases.
Be sure to check it out!

Safe, healthy, stable and economically thriving communities are not possible if our neighbors are forced to leave their homes, especially during a pandemic. As Harris County nears the one-year mark of pandemic response, more relief for those struggling to pay rent is on the way.

Harris County and City of Houston have combined federal funding to create the $159M Houston-Harris County Rental Assistance Fund. The fund will provide for past-due rent and utilities, as well as some future rent payments. Landlords can enroll as early as next week, and the program will accept renters by the end of February. A single website, www.HoustonHarrisHelp.org, will serve both renters and landlords. Required documentation, eligibility requirements, and FAQs are already available online, and a call center will be available when the application process opens.

The program will prioritize applicants in the lowest income bracket and those who have been unemployed for at least 90 days, but it will not operate on a first-come, first-served basis.  Once the application form is available online, the program will remain open through this fall or until all funding is distributed. Additional details will be announced later this month.

Sincerely,

Rodney Ellis
