Harris County MWBE Community:

Precinct One is committed to creating a local economy that works for all Harris County business owners, so we want to ensure you know how to make your voices heard concerning equity in our community regarding economic opportunities.

On Wednesday (4/14), METRO will have a presentation about its MWBE disparity study. I invite you to tune in to hear the latest about the study and visit metropolitantransitauthorityofharriscountydisparitystudy.com for a summary of the project.

If you would like to make a public comment, you must sign up 48 hours before the meeting. Send an email to boardoffice@ridemetro.org or call 713-739-4834 for instructions.

We must ensure there are no missing rungs on the economic ladder for minorities and women in Harris County. That’s why Precinct One proposed the creation of the Harris County Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity in 2019, and why we are proud that it has begun the work of implementing economic policies and initiatives focused on fair and equitable access to economic opportunity.

This disparity study comes after the county’s disparity study revealed that only 0.9% of county contracts are awarded to minority and women-owned businesses in Harris County. This is unacceptable. We will continue breaking down barriers to entry so that everyone has access to economic opportunities. We ask that you join us.

If you have any questions about Precinct One's efforts to level the playing field for MWBEs, contact Sasha Legette at Sasha.Legette@cp1.hctx.net.

Sincerely,

Rodney Ellis
