Judge Jackson’s ascent to the highest court in the land comes at a pivotal moment in the history we are living now as we face unprecedented, coordinated attempts to roll back the rights won by those who sacrificed and struggled before us. Her confirmation breathes life into making real the constitutional promise of freedom, opportunity and justice for all people.
Judge Jackson carries with her the legacy of brave and bold Black women – like Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Baker, Shirley Chisolm, Barbara Jordan and countless others whose names are not recorded by history – who persevered in the face of bigotry, oppression and sexism to forge the path we walk today. Their sacrifices and their hard-won rights are now ours to defend as we face unrelenting attacks on our democracy, liberties, and freedom.
So, today, as we celebrate the well-earned achievement of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and all that she represents, let us also draw inspiration from this moment to renew our fight for the soul of our nation and its true promise.
With my highest respect and warmest regards,
