Dear Friend,

Today’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is a betrayal of justice and a violation of freedom.  Access to abortion care is about equality, autonomy, and humanity—no one should be denied agency over their body, health, or future. We should trust people to make decisions about abortion free from discrimination, punishment, or control by extremists and politicians who do their bidding.

As a long-time advocate for abortion rights, I know the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been and that we face new challenges in a post-Roe world.
In Texas, access to abortion care has long been on the brink and out of reach, especially for women of color, young people, those struggling to make ends meet, the LGBTQ+ community, and other vulnerable Texans.

The Supreme Court’s decision will no doubt cause more harm. We all must do everything within our power to advocate for abortion rights and ensure that Texans—regardless of race, identity, status, or income—are able to make their own health decisions, receive compassionate support, and access reproductive care.

A politically stacked Supreme Court is upending decades of precedent and settled law to reverse our rights and appease extremists with their attack on abortion rights. But the fight isn’t over. We are in a struggle for our nation’s future, our shared humanity, and the promise of freedom and equality that has yet to be delivered.

Together, we must push back against the reactionary extremists’ coordinated attempts to erase progress and push forward toward our vision for a more just and equitable society. We must act together to defend abortion access, our democracy, our fundamental rights, and the hard-won progress we’ve made toward justice, freedom, and equality for all.

Sincerely,

Rodney Ellis
